Tejas Ashok Shirse is India’s leading men’s sprint hurdler and one of the country’s brightest athletics prospects. Born on June 4, 2002, in Aurangabad Maharashtra, Shirse has emerged as a pioneer in an event where Indian athletes have rarely made an impact internationally. He began his sporting journey as a gymnast, developing exceptional balance, flexibility and coordination before transitioning to athletics. Those skills have become the foundation of his efficient hurdling technique, allowing him to maintain speed and rhythm over the barriers. Shirse enjoyed a breakthrough in 2026 when he clocked 13.27 seconds in the 110m hurdles at the Indian Athletics Series in Ludhiana, breaking his own national record and becoming one of the fastest hurdlers in Asia. The performance secured his qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games and made him the first Indian male hurdler to compete at the Games since 2014. He followed it up by sealing qualification for the Asian Games with another impressive run at the National Inter-State Championships. Earlier, in 2025, he set the national indoor record of 7.64 seconds in the 60m hurdles and finished among the top performers at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. With multiple national titles and national records to his name, Shirse has become the standard-bearer for Indian sprint hurdling and is widely regarded as one of the country’s strongest medal hopes in the discipline.Event:110m HurdlesCWG Record:Glasgow 2026: Debut appearanceMajor Achievements:National Record holder in the 110m hurdles (13.27 seconds)National Record holder in the 60m indoor hurdles (7.64 seconds)Gold medal, Indian Athletics Series 9 (2026)Gold medal, Federation Cup (2026)
