Nagpur: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday urged sanitation workers to move beyond traditional jobs and enter the service sector by starting their own businesses, saying it would boost their incomes and make them financially self-reliant.Speaking at the bhoomipujan of NMC’s Maharshi Sudarshan Valmiki Vasahat and PMAY (Urban) 2.0 Swapnapurti housing projects at Mouza Nari, Gadkari said the two projects would provide permanent homes to more than 900 families.Highlighting the community’s progress, he said many members of the Sudarshan Valmiki community have become engineers and graduates, reflecting its growing focus on education.Pointing to emerging economic opportunities, Gadkari said the service sector offers significant potential for entrepreneurship. “Hotels and large residential complexes require housekeeping and hospitality services. Sanitation workers should tap this growing market by setting up service companies and creating employment,” he said.He also called for specialised training to help sanitation workers establish service enterprises and become entrepreneurs instead of remaining dependent on conventional employment.
