VOC, Belgium ports ink deal on digital, green infra
The agreement aims to accelerate VOC Port’s transition into a technologically advanced, globally competitive maritime gateway. The partnership focuses on training, sharing best practices, and integrating digital management tools, while bolstering the port’s existing green portfolio.

Madurai: V O Chidambaranar Port Authority has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Port of Antwerp-Bruges International NV and APEC Antwerp-Flanders Port Training Center (APEC), Belgium, for development of green and digital port infrastructure.The MoU seeks to identify opportunities for cooperation through training, workshops, capacity enhancement, and exchange of best practices, with special emphasis on making port operations more sustainable and integrating digital tools into port administration. A VOC statement said the three-year agreement aligned with VOC Port’s wider sustainability strategy covering solar and wind energy, green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green methanol production and bunkering.During the visit, the delegation received a detailed briefing on the port’s progress in sustainability measures, digital advancement, and cargo growth. They visited the green hydrogen pilot plant, the upcoming green methanol bunkering site, and VOC Port Heritage Museum.Kristof Waterschoot, managing director of Port of Antwerp-Bruges International NV and APEC Antwerp-Flanders Port Training Center VZW, said VOC port is rooted in a long and distinguished history. Its heritage, innovation, operational strength, and international cooperation formed a strong foundation for this partnership, he saidThe agreement was signed by him and Rajesh Soundararajan, deputy chairperson of VOC Port Authority in the presence of senior port officials.
