GURGAON: The businessman whose house came under attack in Gurgaon’s Sushant Lok on Thursday night has found himself at the centre of one of Haryana’s biggest recent police encounters.According to police, the fierce gunfight was an alleged extortion attack, orchestrated by UK-based gangster Deepak Nandal.Four of the five alleged shooters were killed, one was critically injured and three police personnel sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire.
But who is the bizman whose house became the scene of the dramatic gunfight?
According to police, the 36-year-old belongs to a well-known business family and is the son of the co-founder of a private university.He is involved in the real estate business, dealing in land transactions, property development and rental assets.Officers said he owns multiple land parcels and also earns rental income from commercial and residential properties.The businessman has been living in the Sushant Lok bungalow for several years. He married five years ago, and his wife is from Pune.
What happened on the night of shooting
Police said the businessman was out with friends at a pub when five armed men allegedly opened fire at his residence around 9.50pm on Thursday.His wife, her brother and other relatives, along with domestic staff, were inside the house when bullets struck windows, walls and luxury vehicles parked in the compound. No one inside the house was injured.According to investigators, the shooters had allegedly arrived in a black Scorpio with its registration plate concealed before opening fire at the property.
‘Rs 10 crore extortion’ demand
Police said the businessman had allegedly been receiving extortion threats from gangster Deepak Nandal, who is based in the UK.Investigators alleged that Nandal demanded Rs 10 crore and sent multiple audio messages threatening “dire consequences” if the money was not paid.Based on intelligence inputs about possible attacks on businessmen facing extortion threats, crime branch teams had been deployed near potential targets. Police said officers stationed near the Sushant Lok residence intervened as soon as the firing began, leading to the brief but intense gun battle.
Social life
Police said the businessman maintains an active social media presence, frequently posting photographs and videos featuring luxury cars, foreign holidays and parties.Neighbours, however, described him as someone who generally kept to himself.“He didn’t interact much with residents, though parties were occasionally hosted at the house,” a neighbour told TOI.Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged extortion racket and the circumstances leading to the attack.The businessman’s name has not been disclosed by police for security reasons.
