Govt issues SOP for safe shoe, sock distribution

Bengaluru: The state govt is all set to distribute shoes and socks to over 45 lakh govt school students across the state from next week, and has issued a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for their safe storage and distribution. According to a circular issued by the commissioner of school education on Wednesday, officials have been directed to identify one or more storage locations within the jurisdiction of each block education officer (BEO). The storage facility should have adequate space to segregate shoes and socks required for each school, and must be protected from rats, insects and rainwater.After identifying the storage locations, the deputy directors of public instruction (DDPIs) and BEOs should inform the supplier. The suppliers should segregate the shoes according to size and class. Officials have also been directed to prepare route maps and timetables for supplying the shoes and socks to schools. School heads should be instructed to distribute them to students immediately upon receipt, and separate guidelines should be formulated for each taluk to ensure smooth implementation.The nodal officers appointed by the department will monitor and supervise the implementation of the scheme.School heads have also been instructed to ensure proper distribution and maintain records, while officials have been directed to identify schools facing shortages and expedite supplies. The circular states that district authorities will be held accountable for ensuring complete implementation of the directive and timely compliance.
