New industry reports suggest that Barry Keoghan will appear as Joker in the next ‘Batman’ film being led by Robert Pattinson in the leading role of the vigilante.

Since Robert Pattinson last confirmed that filming for ‘Batman 2’ is all set and ready to begin, fans have been awaiting for more updates. Amid the wait, there have also been a lot of debates about whether some of the familiar faces will be reprising their roles or not, which also includes Barry Keoghan.

Keoghan had last appeared in the 2022 ‘Batman’ film in a small cameo, since the first film was about Batman going against the Riddler to save Gotham City. Now, according to a new report shared by Box Office Pro France, the actor will soon be reprising his role in the film. In what capacity he will be appearing is still something that has not been revealed as of yet.It was shared in the report that the production house, which is behind the development of ‘Batman’ and ‘Batman 2’, confirmed the news during one of their presentations at the Studio Show, where production houses come to share their future projects. For the next film, reports have suggested that the main villain of the film would fall to the infamous Victor Zsasz and would also feature the secret society of the Court of Owls, along with Harvey Dent.Keoghan appeared briefly at the end of the 2022 film after The Riddler had been put in Arkham jail. The scene showed him in prison, making a new friend, which turned out to be Keoghan’s Joker. There have been predictions that the Joker may become the main focus of the possible third film in the franchise.

The actor, while talking about the opportunity in 2024, had shared that he would love to reprise the role if the chance presented itself. While appearing on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, the Irish star had shared that, “It’s a big one, but I am going to say that, if the opportunity came about, yes, I’d love to explore, and given the opportunity, really dive into it, but I have not been contacted, I’ve not heard anything.Matt Reeves, who directed the first film, and is also taking over the second one as well, talked to Digital Spy in an old interview about how much he liked Keoghan’s take on the Joker. He had shared at the time that, “Barry is a wonderful actor. He’s very, very special. One of the things that we talked a lot about was the idea, that his worldview is sort of formed by his being disfigured from birth. It was kind of like a cruel joke that life was playing on him, as well.

As of right now, the second instalment of the series has cast Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Gil Perez-Abraham, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tyree Henry. ‘The Batman 2’ is all set to be released on October 1, 2027.
