Kanpur: Girl students will outnumber boys at the 41st convocation ceremony of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), scheduled to be held at Virangana Rani Laxmibai auditorium on July 9.Sharing details of the convocation, university vice-chancellor Vinay Pathak said a total of 1,07,713 students will be awarded degrees. Of these, 57,348 students (53.24%) are girls, while 50,365 (46.75%) are boys, reflecting the growing participation and academic achievements of women in higher education.At the campus level, out of 3,208 graduating students, 1,609 (50.15%) are girls and 1,599 (49.84%) are boys. Among the 1,04,413 students graduating from affiliated colleges, 55,689 (53.34%) are women and 48,724 (46.67%) are men.“The data clearly indicate that women’s participation at CSJMU is now shaping the new face of education,” Pathak said.A total of 96 medals will be awarded to 51 students during the convocation. Of these, 42 medals (82.35%) will go to girl students and nine (17.65%) to boys. Thirty students will receive 33 Chancellor’s Medals, with 26 (86.66%) going to women and four (13.33%) to men, while 11 students will receive Vice-Chancellor’s Medals, including 10 women (90.90%) and one man (9.10%).A total of 52 sponsored medals will also be presented, with 28 (84.85%) going to girl students and five (15.15%) to boy students. In addition, PhD degrees will be conferred on 92 scholars, comprising 50 women and 42 men.The university will confer an honorary degree on Anchal P Bijlani, a distinguished master artisan of India’s traditional Kutch leather craft, in recognition of her contribution to preserving cultural heritage and promoting traditional craftsmanship.Governor Anandiben Patel will preside over the ceremony. Vice-chancellor of University of Delhi and the chairperson of All India Council for Technical Education, Prof Yogesh Kumar Singh, will be the chief guest.During the convocation, four teachers will also be felicitated for academic excellence. They are– Prof Meet Kamal (Chemistry Department, Christ Church College), Dr Shikha Verma (Psychology Department, Nagar Nigam College), Dr Surendra Pratap Singh (Botany Department, DAV College) and Dr Manas Upadhyaya of CSJMU.
