Three days on, accused on the run in Siwan worker murder case

Patna: The accused in the murder of a construction worker in Siwan district remains absconding even after passage of three days of the incident. The victim was allegedly beaten and electrocuted after refusing to do work for the accused, which include the son of a former village mukhiya.The incident took place on July 3 night at Ujjaina village under Lakri Nabiganj police station area.The deceased was identified as Monu Paswan (26), son of Bharat Manjhi, a resident of the village. The prime accused is the son of a former mukhiya.According to villagers, Monu was a close friend of the accused. On July 3, members of the former mukhiya’s family allegedly asked him to work for them. When he refused, the accused reportedly called him to his house later that evening.Police said Monu was allegedly assaulted and given electric shocks with a live wire, leading to his death.The accused allegedly dumped the body near a transformer outside the village in an attempt to make it appear that Monu had died of accidental electrocution while working.After learning about the incident, Monu’s family brought the body to the accused’s house and staged a protest. They later began preparations for the cremation.On receiving information, Maharajganj SDPO Aman Kumar reached the spot with police personnel, pacified the protesters and persuaded the family to allow a postmortem. The body was sent to sadar hospital on Saturday morning.“An FIR has been registered against three people and raids are underway to arrest them. The accused are absconding,” SDPO Aman Kumar said, assuring the family of strict action.
