Broncos winger Josiah Karapani stood down after alleged drink driving, traffic offences

Brisbane Broncos winger Josiah Karapani has been dropped from the team ahead of this weekend’s match after being issued with a notice to appear in court for alleged drink driving.

Queensland police confirmed the 24-year-old was pulled over by police on the Pacific Motorway at Eight Mile Plains on Sunday. He was taken to Holland Park Police station, where he allegedly returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.037 per cent.

As a provisional licence holder, Karapani is subject to a zero blood alcohol concentration.

Karapani was also issued an array of infringement notices for driving an unregistered vehicle, failing to display P1 plates, driving an uninsured vehicle, and exceeding the speed limit by at least 11km/h.

He was issued with a notice to appear in Holland Park Magistrates Court on July 21.

The Brisbane Broncos confirmed Karapani would not be available for NRL selection for this Saturday’s Round 18 game against the Sharks.

In a statement, the club said the NRL Integrity Unit had been informed.

He remains under contract with the Broncos at least until the end of the 2027 season.
