A senior Iranian lawmaker on Sunday told Donald Trump to “worry about your own security” rather than “endlessly bluffing” over the Strait of Hormuz, in response to the US president’s latest remarks on the key maritime route, which has been under a virtual Iranian blockade since March.“The U.S. President ought to worry about his own security rather than his endless bluffing regarding the Strait of Hormuz; before he ends up hiding in a food truck,” Ebrahim Azizi wrote on X.Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Commission, was referencing the now-viral account of Trump being secretly transferred from Air Force One to another aircraft to fly from Türkiye to the UK following a Nato summit last month.US security officials secretly moved Trump onto a US Air Force C-32A aircraft amid an alleged Iranian threat. He was transported in an airport catering truck before boarding the second aircraft for the flight to the UK.Azizi’s post came after Trump, speaking at a rally in New York on Friday, said the United States would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz a U.S. territory, further escalating his rhetoric over the strategic waterway at the centre of the ongoing conflict with Iran.“After we finish defeating Iran… I’ll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States,” Trump remarked, without elaborating on how such a move would be carried out or what legal implications it might entail.The comments came days after Trump claimed that the US had “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz and described the American naval blockade of the waterway as a “WALL OF STEEL”.The strait is a vital artery for global oil and gas shipments, and disruptions to traffic through the waterway have heightened concerns over energy supplies and pushed up fears of further price increases.Tehran has imposed what amounts to a virtual blockade of the waterway in retaliation for US-Israeli strikes in late February that triggered the wider Middle East conflict. Washington subsequently responded by imposing its own blockade on Iranian ports.
