NEW DELHI: Indian para-cyclists put up an impressive show at the UCI Parasport Denmark Grand Prix in Odense, held from Aug 7 to 9, returning with a rich haul of 12 medals, including two gold, five silver and five bronze. Seventeen-year-old Gujarat cyclist Vishwa Vasani (WC3) was among the standout performers, winning four bronze medals in the 1km Individual Time Trial (ITT), Scratch Race, 200m Sprint and Elimination Race.Paralympian Arshad Shaikh (MC2) was India’s most successful cyclist at the event, claiming six medals — two gold, three silver and one bronze, across various track events. His performances underlined his consistency on the international circuit. Sixteen-year-old Anshuman (MC1) added two silver medals to India’s tally, marking another promising performance by one of the country’s emerging para-cyclists.The combined effort of the three cyclists earned India a 12-medal haul and highlighted the country’s growing presence in international para-cycling.All three cyclists train under chief coach Aditya Mehta, who has played a key role in identifying, developing and preparing Indian para-cyclists for international competitions.The performances in Odense also offered further evidence of the depth of talent emerging in Indian para-cycling, with experienced campaigners and young prospects making their mark on the international stage.
