Unlike traditional chatbots, Gemini in Messages is designed to work seamlessly with RCS, offering contextual suggestions and productivity tools right where conversations happen. With support across more than 165 countries and multiple languages, this feature positions Gemini as a daily assistant embedded directly into your messaging experience.
What you need
- An Android phone.
- Your phone’s language set to a supported language
- The latest version of Google Messages
- A personal Google Account that you manage on your own.
- You can’t use Gemini in Google Messages with a Google Account managed by Family Link or with a Google Workspace account.
- Be 18 or over.
- RCS chats turned on.
Start a chat with Gemini in Google Messages
Important: Chats with Gemini aren’t end-to-end encrypted.
- On your Android phone, open Google Messages
- Tap the chat with Gemini, or tap Start chat > Gemini.
- For the first time, follow any on-screen instructions.
- Enter your question or prompt.
- The first time you chat with Gemini, you can explore different conversations. Just tap a suggestion above the message field.
Tip: You can also use apps in your chat with Gemini in Google Messages.
