Cauvery row hits Jana Nayagan screenings across Karnataka

The ongoing Cauvery water dispute disrupted the theatrical run of actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s Jana Nayagan in Karnataka on Friday, with several theatres suspending screenings as protests intensified across the state.At Bengaluru’s Urvashi Theatre, shows were halted following a police advisory, while staff removed the film’s posters and cut-outs. On Thursday, screenings were also cancelled at Gurushree Theatre in Mandya. Jana Nayagan had opened in around 125-150 theatres across Karnataka before the disruptions.Meanwhile, Dr Jayamala, president of The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), the chamber stands with the state’s position on the Cauvery issue. “The authorities have officially declared a drought situation in the state, and our farmers are reeling under its effects due to insufficient rain.” She also hoped that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay would visit Bengaluru soon and that the two sides could discuss “amicable ways to handle this issue.”
