Mohali: Nearly six years after a road rage incident claimed the life of 43-year-old Kuldeep Singh alias Romi near Zirakpur, a Mohali court has sentenced three convicts to life imprisonment for the murder. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of the convicts — Gurvinder Singh, Sukhvinder Singh and Parvinder Singh, all residents of Sanoliya village near Zirakpur.Additional district and sessions judge Vikrant Kumar convicted the three under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).Deputy district attorney Hardeep Singh Rumana said besides the life sentence for murder, the court also awarded one month’s imprisonment under Section 341 (wrongful restraint), six months under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and one year’s imprisonment under Section 506 read with Section 34 (criminal intimidation with common intention) of the IPC.The incident occurred on June 30, 2019, when Pawan, the complainant in the case, was returning from Panchkula to Zirakpur in a car along with his friends Kuldeep Singh and Nipun Jain. Near the Ghazipur-Sainia area, another car allegedly came alongside their vehicle, and its driver began abusing them.When Kuldeep objected to the behaviour, another vehicle allegedly blocked their path. Within moments, three more cars reached the spot and several occupants got out and allegedly tried to drag Kuldeep out of the vehicle, leading to a violent confrontation.The prosecution told the court that the accused repeatedly assaulted Kuldeep with punches and kicks. When Pawan and Nipun Jain attempted to rescue him, they too were allegedly beaten up. Kuldeep collapsed unconscious during the assault, while the accused fled the scene.The injured was rushed to a hospital in Zirakpur, where doctors declared him dead.Based on Pawan’s complaint, the Zirakpur police registered a case under Sections 302, 323, 341, 506 and 34 of the IPC. During the investigation, Gurvinder and the other accused were arrested and put on trial.
