Nagpur: A day after Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) withdrew its protest, its members in Nagpur said their movement is far from over. The resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan is only the first milestone in a much larger campaign aimed at overhauling India’s education system, they said.“This was just a small battle. A much bigger fight lies ahead. One resignation is only the beginning. If India’s education system has to truly become student-centric and free from politics, many more changes will be needed,” said Mahiya Gourkhede, a CJP member from Nagpur who participated in the protests in New Delhi.The resignation is a great victory, but it was never the movement’s ultimate objective, she said. “It was always about bringing meaningful reforms so that examination papers don’t leak, students don’t lose years of their lives, and there is accountability in the education system,” she said.

Recalling the police lathi charge in Delhi, Gourkhede said the experience only strengthened her belief in the power of student unity. “I was there during the lathi charge, and I can confidently say that if students can stand together and endure the blows of a lathi for a cause, they also have the power to bring about real change,” she said.She added that the outfit intends to continue pushing for reforms and greater accountability. “There are many more changes we want to see. The Prime Minister should directly address the issues rather than communicating only through social media,” she said.Durgesh Kuhik, one of the pioneers of the CJP movement in Nagpur, was also part of the Delhi protests. He said the immediate priority is to recover after an intense two-month campaign. “Right now, the first thing we need is a little rest,” he said with a smile.“The last two months have been hectic and emotionally exhausting. There are many more issues that we want to raise in the future, but for now, we need some breathing space. We will regroup and plan our next steps. I cannot commit to a specific issue or timeline yet, but CJP’s work is certainly not over.”
