ERODE: The Bhavanisagar police in Erode district on Saturday arrested a 36-year-old man on charges of murdering his wife. The arrested man has been identified as Baga Prakash of Rameswaram. The deceased, L Rebecca, 24, was from the Sri Lankan Tamil refugee camp located near Thoppampalayam. In 2022, Rebecca married Baga Prakash in an arranged marriage. The couple have three daughters. Following marital discord, the couple separated four months ago. Rebecca moved back to her mother’s place. Rebecca stayed in a rented house in the Thoppampalayam Four Roads area.On Saturday morning, Baga Prakash arrived at Rebecca’s residence to convince her to return to his house.

An altercation occurred between them, during which he stabbed Rebecca multiple times with a knife he had hidden in his waist.Hearing her cries for help, her mother, sister Tharanika, and neighbours rushed to the spot. They chased and captured Baga Prakash.Upon receiving the information, the Bhavanisagar police arrived at the spot and apprehended Baga Prakash.Rebecca, who was severely injured, was rushed to Sathyamangalam Government Hospital in an ambulance. But she died on the way. Based on a complaint filed by Rebecca’s mother, police registered a case.
