Legendary singer Usha Uthup shared her thoughts on music and teamwork during the grand finale of the singing reality show Indian Idol. The veteran performer, who has spent nearly five decades in the music industry, said that every successful song is the result of collective effort and not just the singer’s contribution. The finale turned into a nostalgic celebration as Usha Uthup performed some of her most popular tracks. Her renditions of “Ramba Ho,” “Shaan Se,” and “Hari Om Hari” received great response from the audience and contestants alike.
Usha Uthuo says the song is always bigger than the singer
Speaking during the show, Usha Uthup reflected on the role music has played throughout her career. She stressed that songs have a life beyond the artistes who perform them. She said, “Isse hi hamari jeet hai. The song is always bigger than the singer much, much bigger. Isliye toh hum yahan hain.” (“This itself is our victory. The song is always bigger than the singer—much, much bigger. That is why we are all here.”)

Usha Uthup also used the occasion to recognise the efforts of the people who work behind the scenes. She said every performance depends on the contribution of musicians, technicians and the entire creative team.She added, “Bina musicians ke, bina technicians ke kuch nahi hota. Main hamesha se kehti aayi hoon the song is always bigger than the singer.” (“Without musicians and technicians, nothing is possible. I’ve always believed that the song is always bigger than the singer.”)

Her latest work includes the Inreco track ‘Mon Manchhe Na Aar’, released in June 2026. She also lent her voice to “Azrael” from Mohanlal’s ‘L2: Empuraan’ and continues to perform live at concerts.
