Ahmedabad: Gujarat-based solar module manufacturer Navitas Solar’s EPC arm, Navitas Planet, has secured a $20 million contract to develop a 54MW utility-scale solar power project in Zambia, marking its entry into Africa’s utility-scale EPC market. The project, located in Serenje Province, will involve engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the solar plant. The company said it expects to complete the project in seven to eight months. The plant will use bifacial TOPCon solar modules manufactured by Navitas Solar, while other components will be sourced from global manufacturers. The company said the plant, once operational, is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 42,570 tonnes annually and generate local employment during construction.Zambia relies on hydropower for more than 80% of its electricity generation, leaving its power supply vulnerable to droughts. The project comes as the country seeks to add solar capacity and diversify its energy mix under its Integrated Resource Plan and the Presidential 1,000MW Solar Initiative.
