Vice President Pence met with silence after mentioning Trump in a speech

Vice President Mike Pence mentioned his boss during a speech on Saturday, and he may not have gotten the reaction he was expecting.

As he spoke to attendees of the Munich Security Conference, he noted that he was there on behalf of a “great champion of freedom and of a strong national defense.”

“I bring greetings from the 45th president of the United States of America, President Donald Trump,” Pence said.

Pence then paused, perhaps waiting for a reaction.

The response? Silence.

After about five seconds, Pence continued on with his speech.

A copy of Pence’s prepared remarks provided by the White House marks an “applause” note following Pence’s greetings line.

The remarks also show “applause” notes for introductions of the American delegation, which included Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. While Pence did give a shout-out to Graham – which was followed by applause –he skipped the intro for Pelosi.

Pence was speaking as part of the John McCain Dissertation Award Ceremony, named after the late Arizona Republican senator – who was a vocal critic of Trump.

Watch the full speech below.
