English Premier League giants Chelsea have signed United States men’s national soccer team star Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund, the German club announced Wednesday.

Dortmund says the $73 million transfer is effective immediately but the 20-year-old Pulisic will be loaned back to the German club for the remainder of the 2018-19 season. It won’t have to pay Chelsea a fee for the loan.

“It was always Christian’s dream to play in the Premier League,” said Dortmund director Michael Zorc in a statement. “That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract.”

Pulisic’s contract with Dortmund ran until the end of next season. Zorc, who praised the player’s professionalism, says Dortmund decided to accept Chelsea’s “lucrative” offer.

“I am sure he’ll will do all he can in the coming months to contribute his big qualities to the squad and achieve Borussia Dortmund’s sporting goals with his teammates,” Zorc said about Pulisic.

The American midfielder, long seen as the future star of U.S. Soccer, thanked Dortmund and its supporters in statement on Twitter.
