Suns trade veteran Jared Dudley and second-round pick to Nets for Darrell Arthur

The Suns have traded veteran forward Jared Dudley and a protected 2021 second-round pick to Brooklyn for forward Darrell Arthur, whose contract will be bought out, according to an NBA source.

Phoenix also will guarantee the contract of second-year guard Davon Reed Friday and the Suns plan on keeping point guard Shaq Harrison. Reed will make $1.37 million this season. Reed’s and Harrison’s performances in the Las Vegas Summer League were big factors in the Suns’ decision to keep them.

Reed, the No. 32 overall pick in 2017, averaged 13.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 41 percent from 3-point range. Harrison averaged 12.2 points, 6.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game.

Harrison will receive a $50,000 guarantee if he remains under contract through August 1 but his salary won’t be fully guaranteed until January.

Dudley, 33, averaged a career-low 3.2 points per game in 2017-18 while playing in only 48 games. ESPN reported that the Nets will consider buying out Dudley’s deal as well.

In two stints Dudley played seven seasons for the Suns. His best year came in 2011-12 when he averaged 12.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Dudley told azcentral sports that he wasn’t surprised by the trade. He said the team had briefly discussed a possible buyout of his $9.5 million contract but that he “wasn’t interested.”

Dudley said that while leaving Phoenix is “bittersweet” – he plans to retire in the Valley – he’s excited to be joining the Nets and having the opportunity to play. He said Brooklyn has discussed a buyout of his deal but as of Friday morning he was told he’ll be part of the roster.

“I’m excited about going out and showing I can still play,” said Dudley, adding that he’s lost at least 10 pounds this offseason. “I’m looking to bounce back. People will see I’m the healthiest and in the best shape I’ve been in for years.

“I still have some basketball years left in me. That’s why this isn’t hard for me. I love Phoenix, I love Devin Booker and Robert Sarver and what the organization did for me but there was zero chance I was going to get to play. I was going to get 65 to 70 DNPs.”

In two stints Dudley played seven seasons for the Suns. His best year came in 2011-12 when he averaged 12.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Report: Suns make deal with 76ers

The Phoenix Suns are acquiring forward Richaun Holmes from the Philadelphia 76ers, Yahoo Sports reported.

Holmes, 24, was a second round pick of the 76ers in 2015. He averaged 6.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game this season.
